02 / Buying guide

A useful setup starts with a useful question.

01

What is getting in the way?

Listen to ten seconds of your current recording. A fan, a distant voice or room echo calls for a different fix than missing words in an edit. Try a quieter room and a closer microphone position before buying equipment.

02

How will it connect?

Trace the whole path: microphone, cable, input, recording software. USB and XLR are different setups. Check the manufacturer’s requirements for your device, including adapters, software and any separate interface.

03

What will you actually review?

Listen once for the words, then review timing against the picture. Keep the original recording, check a short export on your destination device, and use captions that remain readable at its real viewing size.
